Ask The County Assessor

Dear Property Owner:

When I became County Executive, I promised to fix the broken, inaccurate and indefensible Nassau County property assessment roll. I am well underway in that effort.

I am pleased to welcome you to Nassau County’s new website, askthecountyassessor.com, a new resource with ready information about the County’s complex property assessment process. My goal is to establish an accurate assessment roll with complete transparency with you, the property owner, being better informed than ever before. You are our customer, and you will come first.

In 2011, the prior administration froze the assessment roll as part of its property tax policy. For eight years, the County only adjusted assessments for decreases, although property values generally increased during that time. In early 2018, I ordered a complete reassessment of every property in Nassau County to restore accuracy to the roll. In addition, I signed an executive order directing David Moog, the County Assessor, to set levels of assessment to ensure an accurate and defensible assessment roll.  David is the first accredited and qualified assessor in the County since 2011.  Nassau County is beginning to clean up the mess that the prior administration left behind.

This site is the portal for all of the information you will need. We are going to keep adding information as it becomes available.  For example, the Department of Assessment will be providing regular updates, including how to meet with staff beginning in November.  We are staffing up to respond to you.  Our telephone system is still being set up; in the meantime, please use this new website.

I appreciate your interest in property assessment and I hope that you will use this website to ask us questions and check for updates.

Warm regards,

lcsig
