[ARCHIVED] MANGANO: SPRING BREAK ACTIVITIES AT GARVIES POINT MUSEUM AND PRESERVE

Glen Cove, New York – Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano today announced that Nassau County will host Spring Break Activities program from Saturday, April 23rd through Saturday, April 30th at Garvies Point Museum and Preserve. The event schedule is as follows:

Saturday, APRIL 23 • 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
TERRARIUM CRAFT:
Celebrate Earth Day and make an enclosed ecosystem that can last for years! Includes everything you need: glass jar, plants, soil, pebbles. $8.00 per participant.

Tuesday, April 26 • 11:00 a.m. & 1:00 p.m.
ARBOR DAY – SPRING NATURE WALK:
Celebrate Arbor Day with a walk through the spring woods, learn about plants, trees, animals & how they interact to make an ecosystem. Join us as we discover the rebirth of nature that occurs every year.
NATURE CRAFT: 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Program & craft included with museum admission

Wednesday, April 27 • 11:00 a.m. & 1:00 p.m.
BIRD-WATCHING WALK:
Learn how to find and identify our favorite birds of field and woods during their spring return. Plus learn how to use binoculars. Feel free to bring your own, we have some available if needed.
RECYCLED BIRD-HOUSE CRAFT: 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Program & craft included with museum admission.

Thursday, April 28 • 11:00 a.m. & 1:00 p.m.
STREAM TABLE DEMO:
Witness the power of moving water and how it sculpts the landscape, with optional short walk down to shoreline.
CATERPILLAR CRAFT: 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Program & craft included with museum admission.

Friday, April 29 • 11:00am
BEACH EXPLORATION:
People of all ages will love to explore the shore¬line for the varied plants and animals that call this harsh environment home.
SAND-CASTING CRAFT: 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Program & craft included with museum admission.

Saturday, April 30 • 11:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
DINOSAUR DAY:
Explore the world of dinosaurs! Learn about dinosaurs from our Geologists, see and touch real fossils, dress up like a dinosaur, try out our “fossil” dig, PLUS make your own “fossil” to take home! $5.00 per participant.

Garvies Point Museum and adjoining 62-acre preserve are located at 50 Barry Drive in Glen Cove. Museum General Admission is $3.00 for adults and $2.00 for children 5-12 yrs. Crafts and programs appropriate for all ages. Proceeds go to the Friends of Garvies Point Museum and Preserve.
