Dear Resident,
In the last month alone, there have been four carjackings at Nassau County gas stations while residents were filling up their gas tanks. Due to this recent rash of car thefts and the overall increase in thefts and break-ins throughout Nassau County, NCPD is urging drivers to practice the following safety precautions:
- Always lock your car and take your keys with you, even while pumping gas
- Do not walk away from your car when it’s running, especially at the pump
- Do not leave key fobs in your vehicle
- Do not leave valuables or personal property in your vehicle
- Never leave your windows open when you’re not in your car
Be alert! If you see something, say something!
Please call 911 to report suspicious activity or crimes in progress.
I also wanted to let you know that on Thursday, January 19, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Nassau County will be hosting a virtual Overdose Prevention Training Seminar to help residents learn what to do in case of an overdose and to teach them how to administer the life-saving overdose reversal agent, NARCAN. Virtual attendees who complete the course are eligible to pick-up a free Narcan Overdose Prevention kit the day after the seminar. Advance registration is required to take this course. The registration portal, available by CLICKING HERE, is currently open and will close when maximum capacity is reached. Please see the flyer below for more information.
As always, please feel free to contact me with any thoughts and ideas you may have with respect to the County or on any particular issue that you think I may be able to assist you with. You may contact me at (516) 571-6214 or by email at LSchaefer@NassauCountyNY.gov
