Mineola, NY—On April 3rd, Legislator Michael Giangregorio joined with County Executive Bruce Blakeman, his fellow Nassau County Legislators and Autism Advocates from around the county to light the dome of the Theodore Roosevelt Executive and Legislative Building blue for Autism Awareness Month.
Legislator Giangregorio, who just took office in March to fill out the term of now State Senator Steve Rhoads, has been a fierce advocate in increasing awareness and supporting efforts to benefit children as well as their families affected by autism.
“Many of these organizations were started by parents of loved ones with autism in an effort to allow them to live their best lives,” Legislator Michael Giangregorio said. “As the father of a son who has autism, I have the same worry that these parents have: what happens when we are no longer here to take care of our child. We have made progress but more needs to be done. I am grateful knowing there are so many out there doing great work to help those dealing with autism and was proud to join with them in lighting the dome blue for Autism Awareness Month.”
Also honored at the dome lighting was Gabriella Smith, a second grader with autism from East Rockaway, who called for help after her uncle fell unconscious and broke bones.
