Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano honored Damien Gallo of Wantagh, a 4x medal winner at the New York Special Olympics, with a citation presentation at the Theodore Roosevelt Executive and Legislative Building on Thursday, June 30th.
Damien competed in the 2016 State Summer Games, as part of the New York Special Olympics, at SUNY Brockport from June 10-12. He won 2 gold medals—one in the 50-meter dash, and one in the javelin throw event. He also won a silver medal in the 4x100 relay, and a bronze medal in the “softball throw” event.
The State Summer Games is the largest competition of the year in New York for Special Olympics athletes. More than 3,500 athletes from every state, and over 30 countries, ranging in age from 10 to 80, gathered in Brockport for the International Games.
