Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano and the Nassau County Veterans Service Agency (VSA) honored our nations’ veterans and presented Distinguished Service Awards to five local veterans for their continued work in the community. Richard Gales, Jr. of Elmont was presented with the Distinguished Veteran Service Award at the ceremony on Saturday, August 6th in Eisenhower Park.
Mr. Gales is a U.S. Navy Veteran who served from 1978-1990. He served on the U.S.S. Suribachi in Lebanon (1982-1983) and in Grenada (1983). Richard has assisted countless veterans in helping to receive their entitled VA benefits. He visits Veteran Hospitals in St. Albans and East Northport, helping in whatever capacity he is needed. He also provides assistance to veterans who need housing and nourishment.
County Executive Mangano stated, “On behalf of Nassau County’s 1.3 million residents, I thank Richard Gales and all of our veterans for their service and dedication to our nation. We salute Richard for his continued selflessness and volunteerism in working to serve veterans in need of assistance.”
