Mangano & Office Of Minority Affairs Announce Millennial Workshop Series For Young Entrepreneurs

Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano, in conjunction with the Nassau County Office of Minority Affairs, the African American Museum of Nassau County and the Small Business Development Center (SBDC) at Farmingdale State College, today announced a 2017 Workshop Series aimed at sharing basic business principles with millennials. The workshops will take place on Saturday, January 7th; Saturday, February 4th; Saturday, March 4th and Saturday, April 1st—from 10am-1pm, at the African American Museum, 110 N. Franklin Street in Hempstead.

“My administration is proud to work with millennials to prevent the brain drain and address the issues facing younger generations,” said County Executive Mangano. “I encourage all young entrepreneurs to attend this workshop series and acquire the skills for starting a business right here in Nassau County.”

Each workshop in the series focuses on different helpful tools for young entrepreneurs, interested in starting a business. The session on Saturday, January 7th, entitled “Why Be in Business,” will answer questions like: how do you define your target market; what is your value proposition; what makes you different; and how to open up a business banking account. The session on Saturday, February 4th, entitled “How to Write a Business Plan,” will dissect each part of a business plan and help you to construct one. The session on Saturday, March 4th, entitled “Finances & the M/WBE,” will be a review of your financial projections, gross margins and required data for your M/WBE certification. The session on Saturday, April 1st, entitled “Marketing Your Business,” will focus on getting PR and marketing for your business, using social media, email and web development.

Registration is required to attend each workshop. A $40 registration fee includes all 4 sessions, materials, a light snack and a Certificate of Completion. There is a $20 fee to attend any individual workshop. Participants must complete the entire series in order to earn the Certificate of Completion. Registration must be completed online at http://conta.cc/2f5FaN3.

For more information about the 2017 Workshop Series, residents can contact the Office of Minority Affairs at (516) 572-2252.
