NassauCounty Executive Edward P. Mangano, along with the Nassau CountyCommission on Human Rights, hosted a Vaisakhi celebration on Wednesday, April12, at the Theodore Roosevelt Executive and Legislative Building in Mineola.Vaisakhi is the spring harvest festival which marks the Sikh new year, and istraditionally celebrated in the Punjab region. County Executive Manganopresented a citation to Bobby K. Kalotee of Hicksville, International Chairmanof the Friends for Good Health organization, among other members of the Punjabiand Sikh communities in Nassau County, in honor of their impressiveaccomplishments.
“The HumanRights Commission is proud to have hosted Nassau County's first-ever Vaisakhicelebration at the Theodore Roosevelt Executive and Legislative Building,” saidCounty Executive Mangano. “This is a milestone for the Sikh and Punjabicommunities, who have made America home for more than a century, and also forNassau, a County devoted to equality and diversity. Together we celebrate thecommunity, prosperity, and continued progress in the year ahead.”
