Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano and Northwell Health, in conjunction with Suffolk County, are assisting veterans in transitioning from the military to a life and career back here at home. A free workshop, “Barracks to Business: Translating Military Skills into Career Success,” is being offered on Thursday, May 11th from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Cradle of Aviation Museum, located at Charles Lindbergh Boulevard in Garden City. The workshop is designed to assist veterans with reframing their leadership experience, teamwork and organization skills to prepare for civilian careers following their military service.
“My administration is committed to supporting the brave men and women of the United States Armed Forces upon their return home,” said County Executive Mangano. “From leadership to discipline and organization, our veterans have the skills desired by employers. I am proud to partner with Northwell Health and Suffolk County to offer this free workshop and provide veterans the opportunity to enhance their resumes, interviewing skills and network with recruiters.”
A former Air Force Staff Sergeant along with a specialist from Northwell Health’s Veteran program will be presenters at this workshop. The “Barracks to Business” Workshop will assist veterans in translating essential and highly sought after military skill sets (i.e. leadership, discipline, flexibility, organization, change management etc.) into a language clearly understood by civilian human resource recruiting and hiring staffs. The workshop will provide assistance with resume writing, guidance on proven interviewing techniques; and the opportunity to network with recruiters and other veterans.
To attend the free “Barracks to Business” Workshop, veterans must register online at: http://jobs.northwell.edu/military-events/. For more information, please call (516) 802-4405.
