Flags Ordered to Half-Staff
Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano today issued the following statement in regard to the passing of retired FDNY Firefighter Ray Pfeifer:
“Yesterday, Nassau County lost a heroic firefighter and an outstanding citizen. Ray Pfeifer passed away after a long and inspirational battle fighting 9-11 Cancer. Ray never let his illness stop him from fighting for his fellow first responders. Our thoughts and prayers, as well as our admiration for Ray, is with his family Caryn, Taylor and Terrance.
Ray fought hard to get the James Zadroga Bill passed so that everyone who responded on September 11th was provided with the necessary medical coverage and compensation they earned in their call to save citizens and first responders.
In honor and remembrance of his selfless service and his unrelenting fight, it is hereby ordered that flags on all Nassau County government buildings be flown at half-staff from Tuesday, May 30 through sunset on June 5, 2017.”
