OFFICIAL STATEMENT – Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano:
“Nassau County mourns the loss of NYPD Police Officer Miosotis Familia, a mother of three, who was assassinated in cold blood while on duty. This tragedy further highlights the dangerous job of serving the public as a police officer. Officer Familia’s bravery and devotion to protecting our region and way of life put her directly in the line of fire.
While no words can comfort the Familia family during this time, I want them to know how grateful Nassau County is for Officer Familia’s bravery in serving as a police officer. My wife Linda and I extend our thoughts and prayers to the Familia family, Miosotis’s loved ones and all those who serve in uniform. May God watch over the family of Police Officer Familia as well as all those who keep our cities, communities and nation safe."

Flags on County government buildings are to be flown at half-staff effective July 5, 2017 through sunset on July 12, 2017 in honor of NYPD Officer Miosotis Familia and in honor of her service to the people of New York City.
