Mangano Attends Fundraiser In Memory Of Hempstead Teenager

MANGANO ATTENDS FUNDRAISER IN MEMORY OF HEMPSTEAD TEENAGER

Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano joined with Village of Hempstead Mayor Don Ryan in support of the 3rd Annual Kay-Day—a celebration and fundraiser in memory of 13-year-old Ka-Juan Polley, who died 2 years ago after being hit by a car in Hempstead. Ka-Juan’s mother and family set up the 3’s for Kay Foundation, Inc. in his memory, dedicated to supporting youth programs in the Hempstead community. Also in attendance were members of Parents and Children Together (PACT), a not-for-profit organization that serves the Village of Hempstead and surrounding communities.

“I am honored to be here at the 3rd annual Kay-Day to show my support for such meaningful and important organizations,” said County Executive Mangano. “Ka-Juan Polley was a bright and talented student athlete with dreams of attending Duke University. What happened to him was a senseless tragedy. I want to thank the 3’s for Kay Foundation and PACT for all they are doing to provide a safe space for Nassau’s youth.”

The 3’s for Kay Foundation was established by Ka-Juan’s mother Jennifer Smith, and her family, after Ka-Juan’s death two years ago. The Foundation has a mission to provide support primarily to under-privileged youth and families in the Long Island region through a broad range of programs, including: recreation activities; life skills training; as well as the creation of a safe space where youth can come and socialize without the worries of the many social ills that affect them daily. They are trying to raise funds for a community center, in Ka-Juan’s name, that can and will provide a safe haven for children.

PACT focuses on offering services to youth who are at risk of unprotected sexual activity, early pregnancy as well as pregnant and parenting teens. The PACT program works to provide teens with opportunities for cultural and education enrichment activities that can support the development of personal goals.
