Mangano : Nassau IDA Helps Bring Extended Stay Hotels to Sites at Garden City & Jericho

Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano today announced that the Nassau County Industrial Development Agency (IDA) has approved economic development compacts that pave the way for development of Resident Inn by Marriott extended stay hotels at Roosevelt Field in Garden City and at the Milleridge Inn in Jericho.

The projects, proposed by separate developers, together would create 200 full-time-equivalent construction industry jobs, 75 full-time equivalent permanent jobs, generate total economic benefits of $64 million and $19.5 million in new tax revenues for the affected taxing jurisdictions.

“These are important hotel projects for Nassau County at a time when there is heavy demand for hotel rooms. They will create new jobs for our residents, provide convenient places to stay for business people and visitors on extended stays and will generate millions in economic benefit for the community,” said County Executive Mangano.

The economic development compacts, approved by the IDA board at a Sept. 27 meeting, are for:

  • A four-story, 163-suite, 118,000-square-foot Residence Inn by Marriott on 5.92 acres on Ring Road close to Stewart Avenue at Roosevelt Field.  The developer, Palmetto-RPT Owner LLC, is a joint venture of South Carolina-based OTO Development and Simon Property Group, the owner of Roosevelt Field Mall.  The proposed hotel has been approved by the Village of Garden City and construction is expected to begin soon after the closing of the economic development compact and will last about 15 to 18 months.
  • A 127-suite, 85,102-square-foot, four-story Residence Inn by Marriott at 410 Jericho Tpke., Jericho, proposed by Twenty Six Sunset, LLC, owned by the family of Long Island hotel developer John Danzi. The site, a part of the parking lot of the well-known restaurant and catering complex, is less than one-quarter mile from the Long Island Expressway and Northern State Parkway. Construction is expected to take approximately 14 months.

“These hotels will bring in new tax revenues as they are being developed on vacant sites,” said IDA Executive Director Joseph Kearney.
