Mineola, NY—Nassau County Executive Laura Curran advises all county residents to be ready, take necessary steps and avoid travel if possible. The storm system is continuing to move up the eastern seaboard, with snow expected to be heavy at times. Recent temperatures have been well below freezing which will cause sidewalks and roadways to quickly become slippery. The Thursday morning and evening commutes will be significantly impacted.
The latest forecast is for snow accumulations ranging between 5-8 inches with higher amounts closer to Suffolk County. The snow is expected to taper - off around 6:00 p.m. Thursday. Winds are expected to gust between 30 to 40 mph creating near blizzard like conditions, making driving dangerous.
County Executive Curran urges residents to remain indoors and to avoid any unnecessary driving for the duration of the storm. “Residents should stay informed on storm conditions and stay indoors”, said Laura Curran, County Executive, “The bitter cold temperatures coupled with blowing and drifting snow will pose health and safety concerns. Please check on family members and any elderly neighbors to confirm their safety.”
