[ARCHIVED] NASSAU COUNTY EXECUTIVE CURRAN OVERSEES RESPONSE TO 2018’s FIRST WINTER STORM

On her fourth day in office County Executive Laura Curran toured several county facilities as county agencies are responding to today’s winter storm. The storm has dropped over 8 inches of snow across the county. Expected accumulations may exceed expectations as wind gusts will blow snow from place to place.. Wind gusts exceeding 40 mph are expected as the system leaves tonight. Blowing snow will reduce visibility to near zero. The safest place to be is in your home.

Hundreds of homes experienced power outages, most of which are in North Hempstead. Efforts will continue to restore residents to electrical power. Roads are increasingly dangerous as the snow continues to blow wildly reducing visibility considerably. LIRR trains have experienced delays. More traffic accidents have been reported. County Executive Curran urges residents to remain indoors. No one should be driving unless it is absolutely necessary. Conditions outdoors will remain dangerous throughout the night. “I strongly implore all residents to stay home until our emergency vehicles and plows render driving safe once our roads are clear and accessible”, the County Executive stressed.
