Legislator Kevan M. Abrahams is this Month’s
PARP Secret Reader at Brookside Elementary School
(BALDWIN, N.Y.) – Nassau County Legislator Kevan Abrahams (D – Freeport) met some of his district’s youngest residents during a Monday, March 11 visit to the Brookside Elementary School in Baldwin, where he had the privilege of reading to a class of excited fifth graders.
Every year, Brookside Elementary School hosts Pick-A-Reading-Partner (PARP), a New York State PTA educational initiative in which reading partners, such as parents, relatives and elected officials, are invited as special guests to read to students. This year, Brookside’s PARP theme is, “I LOVE ME” to encourage and teach students about self-love.
“Brookside Elementary School has an amazing staff that works together to encourage our students to embrace the power of reading and learning, and the importance of a healthy self-esteem” said Legislator Abrahams. “I am always excited to be a part of their Pick – A – Reading – Partner (PARP) and I am hopeful my visit encourages them in some way.”
