(MERRICK, N.Y.) – Nassau County Legislator Debra Mulé (D – Freeport) and Baldwin community stakeholders braved the cold on Saturday, Jan. 12 to learn more about Complete Streets design principles during a walking tour of downtown Merrick.
The purpose of the tour, which was led by the Merrick Chamber of Commerce, was for interested Baldwin residents to gain first-hand knowledge of Complete Streets principles, which are designed to improve safety for motorists, pedestrians and cyclists alike.
A portion of Grand Avenue in Baldwin will utilize the principles as part of an upcoming Nassau County road project. Details about the Complete Streets project, frequently asked questions and professional studies can be reviewed at https://www.nassaucountyny.gov/4257/Grand-Ave-Baldwin.
“It is important for residents to have every opportunity to see what is possible for Baldwin from communities that have successfully implemented Complete Streets in their own downtowns,” Legislator Mulé said. “I thank the Merrick Chamber of Commerce for coordinating this weekend’s informative tour.”
