LEGISLATOR FORD JOINS COUNTY EXECUTIVE TO ACCEPT WORLD TRADE CENTER SAPLING

Ford joined with County Executive Curran accept a white oak tree sapling

On September 14th, Alternate Deputy Presiding Officer Denise Ford joined with County Executive Laura Curran to accept a white oak tree sapling that was grown from the acorns of a memorial tree at New York City’s 9/11 Memorial. The sapling is being provided by Chris Hopcraft and the World Trade Center Oak Project, in conjunction with Disaster Heroes.

On the morning of September 13th, 2017, Hopcraft went to the September 11th Memorial in New York City and collected 60 acorns from the white oak trees that are placed at the memorial. He then took them back to his home in Michigan and grew them into saplings. He formed the World Trade Center Oak Project to distribute the saplings around the Country. The 9/11 Memorial at Nassau County’s Eisenhower Park has been selected as one of the sites for the white oak tree.

“I was proud to accept this sapling with the County Executive, for planting near the 9/11 memorial in Eisenhower Park,” Alternate Deputy Presiding Officer Ford said. “Let this white oak tree be a reminder and a place of reflection of the tragic events of that day. We will never forget those that gave their lives, and those who continue to suffer every day.”

County Executive Laura Curran Said “It is so meaningful to have this sapling from The World Trade Center Oak Project in our very own Eisenhower Park. I thank Legislator Ford for facilitating this gift for Nassau County’s September 11 Memorial. This tree will have a very special place in our park and in our hearts for years to come.”
