(MINEOLA, N.Y.) - Nassau County Legislator Ellen W. Birnbaum (D - Great Neck) welcomed representatives from the Child Abuse Prevention Services (CAPS)/Bully Prevention Center to the Theodore Roosevelt Executive and Legislative Building on Friday, Oct. 4. During this meeting, CAPS leaders and Legislator Birnbaum, a trained CAPS anti-bullying facilitator that has visited many middle school classes to lead discussions with students, discussed ways they can collaborate on efforts to address bullying, especially among youth.

"We are grateful to Legislator Birnbaum for her continued support of our mission, working together to keep every child safe from harm," said Debbie Mullarkey, Executive Director of CAPS/Bully Prevention Center.  "It is so important to make sure children feel safe, supported, and empowered.  We know that this can be accomplished when we work together."

CAPS/Bully Prevention Center is a non-profit dedicated to the prevention of bullying, cyber-bullying, child abuse and neglect, and is the only volunteer organization that works directly with children and youth in New York’s Nassau and Suffolk elementary, middle and high schools. Since its inception, CAPS has reached over 1 million Long Island students, parents, educators, professionals and concerned community members through education and awareness programs. “In my role as a trained CAPS anti-bullying program facilitator, I have become intimately aware of the important services provided by this organization,” Legislator Birnbaum said. “Not only do anti-bullying initiatives make schools safer and more inclusive places, they contribute to a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and empowers students to reach their full potential. I applaud them for their efforts and am proud to support their work.”
