PRESIDING OFFICER NICOLELLO SECURES $50,000 COUNTY GRANT FOR ONDERDONK HOUSE

PRESIDING OFFICER NICOLELLO SECURES

The Onderdonk house was originally built in 1836 for Kings County Judge Horatio Gates Onderdonk and his family. Almost 100 years later, the home was purchased by Levitt and Sons - the founders of the famed Levittown Developments - and used the building as an administrative office while building the neighboring North Strathmore community.

The Strathmore Civic Association began taking care of the house after its incorporation in 1936, who still cares for the building to this day.

Added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1980, the Onderdonk House is still actively used by the community today. It often hosts fundraisers, parties, weddings, and issues filming permits to be used in movies and commercials.

During his visit, Presiding Officer Nicolello offered the following: “I was proud to secure the grant to assist in needed repairs and renovations for the Onderdonk House, a beautiful building with an extraordinary history. Thank you to the Onderdonk Landmark-Historical Society for helping to maintain this wonderful landmark and ensure that it remains intact for residents to enjoy for generations to come.”
