Legislator Ellen W. Birnbaum Secures $30,000 for Upgrades to Kensington Village Green

(MINEOLA, N.Y.) - Nassau County Legislator Ellen W. Birnbaum (D - Great Neck) has secured passage of a $30,000 Community Revitalization Program (CRP) grant for the Incorporated Village of Kensington. The Village will utilize those funds to install automatic irrigation systems and fencing to further beautify and facilitate the long-term maintenance and preservation of the Village Green parkland adjacent to Village Hall along Middle Neck Road.

County funding for the project, which was approved by the full Nassau County Legislature on Monday, August 3, will be provided through an intermunicipal agreement with the Village.

“We are pleased that the legislature has awarded Kensington the funding to permit us to further beautify the common areas of our village which are open to all,” Kensington Mayor Susan Lopatkin said. “The addition of irrigation systems, which will ensure the plantings of last season survive going forward, will be a welcome addition to our infrastructure. We intend to implement this as soon as the paperwork has been formally signed and we have the green light to proceed. In an environment where we are trying to maintain the ambiance of our village while balancing our budget, I want to thank Legislator Birnbaum for procuring these needed funds.”

“Through their commitment to consistent, methodical improvements to the Village Green, Kensington Village has created a welcoming natural gathering place that benefits the entire community,” Legislator Birnbaum said. “Improvements funded through this grant will enhance the beauty of this parkland for many years to come. I am thankful that my colleagues supported an investment that will further amplify and preserve the County’s previous investments in Kensington Village beautification initiatives.”
