(FREEPORT, N.Y.) - Nassau County Legislators Kevan Abrahams (D - Freeport) and Debra Mulé (D - Freeport) partnered with the Cedarmore Corporation to host a pop-up farmers market outside the Zion Cathedral Church of God in Christ in Freeport on Friday, Sept. 4. There, eligible shoppers ages 60 and older received $20 vouchers, distributed by the Nassau County Department for the Aging, for the purchase of fresh produce through the New York State Department of Health Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program.

In accordance with COVID-19 prevention protocols, youth workers and participants in Legislator Abrahams’ summer internship program (pictured above, from left, volunteer Cristopher Merino, LD1 legislative assistant Gabrielle Brooks, market manager Imani Jackson, and interns Kayce Ann Smith and Shayan Tobria) took orders from the patrons in their cars, filled orders and delivered the fruits and vegetables back to their vehicles.

The pop-up market was an outgrowth of the weekly, youth-led Cedarmore Farmers’ Market, which is scheduled to operate (weather permitting) in the Baldwin LIRR Station parking lot between Milburn and Brookside Avenues from 11:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. every Saturday through Oct. 31.

Patrons can place advance online orders for the weekly Baldwin LIRR market, which has been reimagined as a drive-through market during the pandemic, at www.CedarmoreFarms.org. For more information, call 516-378-3415 or text FarmFresh to 474747.
