Legislator DeRiggi-Whitton: Additional Properties to Gain Sewer Service Through Sea Cliff Expansion

(SEA CLIFF, N.Y.) - Nassau County Legislator Delia DeRiggi-Whitton (D - Glen Cove) is announcing that additional properties will be connected to sanitary sewers as part of the Village of Sea Cliff’s ongoing $8-million sewer expansion project - and at no additional cost to taxpayers.

The additional 2,460 linear feet of sewers will service properties on portions of Maple, Central, 7th and Summit Avenues. Sea Cliff Village officials were able to expand the scope - but not the cost - of its sewer expansion project thanks to favorable prices that were secured when bidding out the initial 5,850 linear feet of work, which will impact portions of Prospect, 12th, and Summit Avenues as well as Fairview Place.

The expanded scope of work was formalized through a unanimous vote in the Nassau County Legislature on Monday, Oct. 26.

“Sea Cliff’s steadfast commitment to their sewer expansion initiative will allow more property owners to benefit from a project that protects the environment, stimulates economic growth and enhances our quality of life,” Legislator DeRiggi-Whitton said. “I am truly grateful to Mayor Edward Lieberman, Village Administrator Bruce Kennedy and their entire team for their diligence, which will result in more homes and businesses benefitting from this project at no additional cost to taxpayers.”

Legislator DeRiggi-Whitton previously advocated for and secured $4 million in Nassau County capital plan funding for the project, which will supplement $3 million in state grants and approximately $1 million in village resources.

“We worked hard in putting together a concise bid package and obtaining highly competitive bids. It simply goes to show that government can work collaboratively and efficiently. This is the kind of results that taxpayers deserve,” Sea Cliff Village Administrator Bruce Kennedy said. “My gratitude goes out to the County Executive, the County Legislature, and especially Legislator DeRiggi-Whitton for her steadfast commitment and partnership.”

“Once again, Legislator DeRiggi-Whitton has demonstrated her concern and caring for her constituents,” Sea Cliff Mayor Edward Lieberman said. “The advent of the expansion of the Sea Cliff sewer project is a prime example of her leadership in promoting environmentally sound community projects that immensely aid the vibrancy of our downtowns and village life.”
