(SYOSSET, N.Y.) - Nassau County Legislator Joshua Lafazan (Woodbury) joined local veterans and hometown heroes for an outdoor, socially distanced Veterans Day ceremony on Syosset’s Gus Scutari Way on Wednesday, Nov. 11. “As we honor the men and women who put their lives on the line to defend our nation and its principles, I am filled with gratitude,” Legislator Lafazan said. “May we always hold our appreciation for their service to this nation close to our hearts on this day and throughout the year.”
The ceremony, which was held at the corner of Underhill Boulevard and Jackson Avenue, was the first Veterans Day ceremony held since renaming that stretch of road to honor Gus Scutari, a beloved World War II veteran and community leader best known for his stewardship of Syosset’s annual Memorial Day parade. After Mr. Scutari passed away on April 9, 2020 at the age of 99, Legislator Lafazan led efforts to rename the street as a lasting tribute to his service.
