(FREEPORT, N.Y.) - Nassau County Legislator Debra Mulé (D - Freeport) recognized George Garbutt and his family for establishing and maintaining a Sharing Table at their East Seaman Avenue home in Freeport. During a Tuesday, March 9 visit, Legislator Mulé presented the Garbutt family with a Nassau County Citation in recognition of their philanthropic efforts.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Sharing Tables emerged as a grassroots relief effort in response to increased unemployment and food insecurity. Today, there is a network of no fewer than 47 such tables in New York and California, where donors and recipients are encouraged to “take what you need, and leave what you can, if you can.”

In addition to food, toiletries and cleaning supplies, the Garbutt family also offers and accepts donations of children's books and DVDs at their Sharing Table.

“The Garbutt family’s embrace of the spirit of giving is truly admirable during these challenging times. Thanks to their efforts, members of our Freeport community now have an opportunity to receive important supplies - as well as an opportunity to pay it forward for the next family when they are able, “Legislator Mulé said. “We are all grateful for their compassion and willingness to lend a helping hand, and I was honored to formally recognize their dedication to community service.”
