(MINEOLA, N.Y.) - Earlier today, Nassau County Executive Laura Curran called upon the Nassau County Legislature to support her proposal to create the Nassau County Homeowner Assistance Program. Under her proposal, the County would utilize $100 million in federal American Rescue Plan aid to provide direct cash payments of approximately $375 to an estimated 300,000 Nassau property owners.
Following her announcement this morning, Nassau County Legislature Minority Leader Kevan M. Abrahams (D – Freeport) issued the following statement:
“Direct payments are a valuable tool for alleviating financial burdens that residents are continuing to experience as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic,” Minority Leader Abrahams said. “The Minority Caucus supports County Executive Curran’s approach and is hopeful that the measure will be spared the ordeal of becoming a political football so that middle-class Nassau County families can reap the benefits of this relief as quickly as possible.”
