Legislator Mulé Hosts “Starry Skies Over District Five” Webinar

(FREEPORT, N.Y.) - Nassau County Legislator Debra Mulé (D - Freeport) partnered with Hofstra University Research Astronomer Dr. Donald Lubowich to host “Starry Skies Over District Five,” a Wednesday, Oct. 6 Zoom webinar geared toward budding stargazers.

During the presentation, Dr. Lubowich helped participants pinpoint stars, and view different galaxies, and find Pegasus, the flying horse of Greek mythology. Viewers were introduced to key astronomy terminology, learned more about stars and constellations, and learned more about what was overhead the night of the webinar. He also discussed his role as the Outreach Coordinal for Hofstra’s Astronomy Outreach Program and the community events it hosts.                                                                

After the presentation, Dr. Lubowich answered questions from residents and shared details about free astronomy resources, astronomy clubs, sky simulation programs, Long Island’s best sites for telescope observing, and more.

“Through the study of astronomy, we all have an opportunity to expand our scientific knowledge and learn so much about the universe we inhabit,” Legislator Mulé said. “We all thank Dr. Lubowich for joining us to share his vast expertise and knowledge on this fascinating topic.
