What you need to know:
  • Nassau County is offering a new way to treat Opiate addiction, at its drug treatment program in Building K on the grounds of NUMC. It combines a monthly injection of extended-release medication with individual and group counseling.
Benefits:
  • The medication - Vivitrol - caps the brain’s receptors; reduces cravings for Opiates; blocks the high.
  • FDA approved; non-addictive, non-narcotic; can’t be abused.
To Qualify:
  • Individuals should be Opioid-free for 7-10 days before the initial shot, and continue with counseling.
  • The average treatment period is 15 months.
  • Medication is covered by most private insurance, Medicaid & Medicare.A monthly, $500 discount coupon is available, online, to reduce a co-pay or help with private pay.
