[ARCHIVED] Statement from Legislator Arnold W. Drucker on Threats Against Synagogues in New Jersey

(MINEOLA, N.Y.) - Today, Nassau County Legislator Arnold W. Drucker (D - Plainview) issued the following statement:
“Nassau County stands with our neighbors in the Garden State and Jews around the world. While we are all gratified that the FBI has identified the alleged perpetrator behind the threats against New Jersey synagogues, it is a stark reminder of why we must never relent in our fight to eradicate antisemitism and all forms of hatred from our society.”
“Just yesterday, Nassau County was once again directly confronted with the grotesque stain of antisemitism when swastikas and racial slurs were discovered carved into a tree at South Lynbrook Junior High School. Taken with the threats in New Jersey, this local incident and others before it - including the nefarious and hateful activities of the so-called ‘Goyim Defense League’ in multiple Nassau communities - it is clear that we cannot afford to let our guard down.”
“These incidents vividly illustrate why I fought so hard for the creation of a Nassau County Task Force to Combat antisemitism and joined my Minority Caucus colleagues in advocating to fund more police officers in our county budget so that we could establish a dedicated NCPD Hate Crimes division.”
“As these endeavors continue, I remain deeply thankful for the Nassau County Police Department and its diligent efforts to ensure that we can all live and worship freely and in peace. If you become aware of a threat to a synagogue or any house of worship, I implore you to report it immediately to NCPD or your local police jurisdiction.”
