[ARCHIVED] Legislator Judy Jacobs, to Host Citizen Preparedness Corps Training Program Meeting

Nassau County, NY – During National Preparedness Month in September State Senator Carl Marcellino, State Assemblyman Charles Lavine and Nassau County Legislator Judy Jacobs have scheduled a meeting that is intended to increase community awareness about natural disasters that can create emergency situations; such as floods, hurricanes, tornadoes or wildfires.

The event, scheduled for Wednesday, September 10 from 6:30 to 8:30 pm will be held at the Jericho Public Library, 1 Merry Lane, in Jericho.

“All we need do is recall the devastation from super storm Sandy to recognize how vitally important it is to have the information you need to manage a disaster, prior to the disaster occurring,” said Legislator Jacobs. “I recommend everyone set aside time to learn about the procedures for dealing with emergencies.”

Assemblyman Lavine agreed saying, “With summer nearing an end and the height of the storm season gearing up, residents are encouraged to attend the meeting in which they can learn how to be prepared for any type of natural disaster that may arise. Too frequently people don’t have the resources to deal with these types of situations. Preparation is key.”

The Emergency Awareness seminar will be led by the NY National Guard working with experts from the Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services’ Officer of Emergency Management and Office of Fire Prevention and Control. Attendees will receive a free Citizen Preparedness Corps Response Starter Kit.

A second seminar will be led by the Nassau County Office of Emergency Management which will provide the latest information about disaster preparedness in PowerPoint presentation and conduct a question and answer session. The event, scheduled for Wednesday, September 16, from 7 to 9 pm, will be held at the Jericho Public Library, 1 Merry Lane, in Jericho.

Those interested in attending or in need of additional information, should contact Legislator Jacobs office at 516-571-6216 or Assemblyman Lavine’s office at 516-676-0050.
