(FREEPORT and BALDWIN, N.Y.) - Nassau County Legislator Debra Mulé (D - Freeport) partnered with the Nassau County Department of Assessment to bring the Homeowner Exemption Liaison Program (HELP) to the Freeport Memorial Library on Tuesday, Aug. 20 and the Baldwin Public Library on Thursday, Aug. 22, delivering personalized service to dozens of homeowners seeking assistance with their tax exemptions.

During the events, Department of Assessment staff provided one-on-one assistance with filing for veteran, senior citizen, Cold War veteran, volunteer firefighter and ambulance worker, and limited-income disability exemptions. Enhanced STAR applications were also processed for homeowners already enrolled in the STAR program prior to Jan. 2, 2015. The Freeport event was co-presented with Legislator Seth I. Koslow (D – Merrick).

“H.E.L.P. workshops give property owners an important opportunity to ensure they are getting every exemption that they are entitled to receive – and for many, these savings can make a significant impact upon their property taxes,” Legislator Mulé said. “I’m proud to support initiatives that make this process easier and more user friendly, and I once again thank John McQuade and his entire team for sharing their expertise with our constituents.”

All HELP sessions are from 1 p.m. - 3 p.m. Participants are asked to arrive no later than one half-hour prior to the scheduled end time for the event and are encouraged to make copies of their 2023 federal and state tax income returns, along with required documentation listed on the exemption application, prior to attending the program. For more info or to receive a list of necessary documentation, call the Nassau County Department of Assessment at 516-571-1500.
