(OCEANSIDE, N.Y.) – Nassau County Legislature Alternate Deputy Minority Leader Debra Mulé (D – Freeport) was honored at the Hispanic Brotherhood’s 30th annual scholarship dinner on Thursday, May 8. Held at Temple Avodah in Oceanside, the event raises funds to provide financial assistance for deserving college students in the surrounding area. Alternate Deputy Minority Leader Mulé colleague and Hispanic Brotherhood supporter Legis. Scott M. Davis (D – Rockville Centre) was among the well-wishers in attendance.

Alternate Deputy Minority Leader Mulé was recognized alongside fellow honorees Mr. and Mrs. M. Carvalho, proprietors of Churrasqueira Bairrada Restaurant; Rockville Centre Trustee Emilio F. Grillo; Village of Island Park Mayor Michael G. McGinty; Long Island Latino Teachers Association President Dafne Irizarry; Rockville Centre Lions Club President Bill Manteria; Herminia’s Brokerage owner Herminia Bonilla, and Mrs. Maureen Remy and Mrs. Mary Testa, coordinators of the Adopt a Family Program.

During the celebration, the Hispanic Brotherhood also honored longtime Executive Director Margarita Grasing, who will soon be retiring and passing the baton to her daughter, co-director Marguerite Keller.

“Since 1984, the Hispanic Brotherhood has set the standard for community service in Nassau County and done so much to enrich the lives of our seniors, educate our young people, combat food insecurity, connect people with employment, help immigrants onto the path of citizenship, and keep families in their homes,” Alternate Deputy Minority Leader Mulé said. “I am tremendously grateful to this wonderful organization for their tireless efforts and deeply humbled to have been recognized by them. Congratulations to this year’s scholarship recipients and to my fellow honorees!”
