[ARCHIVED] Mulé, Community Partners Announce Earth Day Community Cleanup Series in Freeport and Baldwin

WHAT – In recognition of April 22 as Earth Day, Nassau County Legislature Alternate Deputy Minority Leader Debra Mulé (D – Freeport) is partnering with her colleagues in government and local stakeholders to host a series of community clean-ups across District 6 on Saturday, April 25.

The day is set to begin at 9 a.m. at Milburn Creek in Baldwin, followed by a 9:30 a.m. cleanup at Silver Lake Park in Baldwin, a 10 a.m. gathering at Brookside Preserve in Freeport/Baldwin, and a 10:30 a.m. event at Loft’s Pond Park in Baldwin. Community partners sponsoring the events include Operation SPLASH, the South Shore Conservation Society, the Freeport/Merrick Rotary Club, The Green Army, the Girl Scouts of Nassau County (Freeport), the Environmental Rotaract of Nassau County, and students from Freeport and Baldwin High Schools, and more.

Prior to Saturday’s cavalcade of cleanups, students from Freeport High School’s Environmental Justice Club will observe Earth Day with an all-day cleanup on Wednesday, April 22 at Brookside Creek.

Garbage bags and rubber gloves will be provided; participants are encouraged to bring pokers, rakes, grabbers, heavier gloves, and other supplemental tools. To safeguard against ticks and other hazards, attendees are encouraged to wear long sleeves, pants, socks, and other protective attire. Participants are also encouraged to leave all pets at home.

“District 6 is blessed with some of our region’s most beautiful green spaces and aquatic preserves, and it is imperative for each of us to do our part to enhance and preserve them for future generations,” Alternate Deputy Minority Leader Mulé said. “I am thrilled to be working with Senator Bynoe, Assemblywoman Griffin, Legislator Scott Davis, and so many outstanding community organizations to celebrate Earth Day with this community cleanup series. Please join us and roll up your sleeves as we pay tribute to our planet through this service project!”

Anyone interested in volunteering is asked to RSVP with Alternate Deputy Minority Leader Mulé’s office at 516-571-6206 or dmule@nassaucountyny.gov.
