[ARCHIVED] Freeport Man Sentenced to 20 Years to Life for Stabbing Wife to Death

Loventino Cassadean, 52, lit home on fire to conceal killing mother of two small children

MINEOLA, N.Y. – Acting Nassau County District Attorney Madeline Singas announced the sentencing today of a Freeport man for murdering his wife, Felicia Cassadean, and then lighting a fire in the family’s home in order to conceal his crime.

Loventino Cassadean, 52, was sentenced today by Acting Supreme Court Justice Patricia Harrington to 20 years to life in prison. Cassadean pleaded guilty in April 2014 to Murder in the 2nd Degree (an A felony) before then-Acting Supreme Court Justice Tammy Robbins.

“Young Felicia Cassadean was subjected to the most brutal form of domestic violence,” Acting DA Singas said. “Her husband violently stole her life and robbed her children of their mother. This case should serve as a reminder that we must be vigilant in our efforts to end domestic violence and punish the abusers.”

Acting DA Singas said that on Sept. 3, 2012 at approximately 6:02 a.m., Cassadean repeatedly stabbed his 22-year-old wife with a knife in a residence on Craig Avenue in Freeport.

In order to cover up the crime, Cassadean lit a fire inside the residence. Members of the Freeport Police Department and the Freeport Fire Department were dispatched to the home. After gaining entry to the residence and extinguishing the fire, the victim’s body was found in a room in the home.

Felicia Cassadean’s two small children were visiting her mother in Guyana at the time of the incident.

Cassadean was arrested by the Nassau County Police Department Homicide Squad shortly after the victim’s body was discovered.

Assistant District Attorney Ania Pulaski of Acting DA Singas’ Major Offense Bureau is prosecuting the case. Cassadean is represented by Don Rollock, Esq.
