Michael Ramis, 33, allegedly brought his four-year old and eight-year old to drug deals
MINEOLA, N.Y. – Acting Nassau County District Attorney Madeline Singas announced that a Bronx man was arraigned today on a nine-count grand jury indictment related to selling a controlled substance in February and April, while in front of one or both of his children, ages four and eight.
Michael Ramis, 33, was arraigned on the following grand jury charges:
• Two counts of Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance in the 3rd Degree (a B felony)
• Two counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 3rd Degree (a B felony)• Two counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 7th Degree (an A misdemeanor)
• Three counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child (an A misdemeanor)
Ramis pleaded not guilty before Acting Supreme Court Justice Teresa Corrigan. Bail was continued at $20,000 bond or $10,000 cash. The defendant faces a maximum of 2 to 12 years if convicted on the top charge and is due back in court on November 10.
“Opioid painkillers can kill just like heroin, and it’s critical that we stop those dealing in death,” said Singas. “That these defendants were dealing drugs is bad enough, but that they brought their children to a drug deal is an absolute outrage.”
Ramis’ co-defendant, Crastina Soto, 27, pleaded guilty to the same indictment charges on October 23 before Supreme Court Justice Frank Gulotta.
Acting DA Singas said that on Sunday February 22, at 3:50 p.m., Ramis and Soto sold Oxycodone pills in an Elmont commercial parking lot with one of their children present. On April 8, the couple sold Oxycodone pills again at the same parking lot, this time with both their four-year old and eight-year old present. The children were released to the care of a family member.
Assistant District Attorney Teresa Aiello of Acting DA Singas’ Street Narcotics and Gangs Bureau is prosecuting the case. Ramis is represented by Mindy Plotkin, Esq.
