Edward Ramirez will face prison time and have to register as a sex offender

MINEOLA, N.Y. –Nassau County District Attorney Madeline Singas announced that a Glen Cove man who forced a young girl to sexually touch him in a Glen Cove supermarket pleaded guilty today.

Edward Ramirez, 43, pleaded guilty to the top charge in the case, Sexual Abuse in the 1st Degree (a D felony), in front of Acting Supreme Court Justice Terence Murphy today. Ramirez faces four years in prison, followed by 10 years of post-release supervision, and will have to register as a sex offender upon his release. He is due back in court on June 21.

“This defendant has pleaded guilty to targeting and abusing a young girl in a neighborhood supermarket,” DA Singas said. “We cannot tolerate this despicable conduct in our communities and this defendant deserves every day of the prison sentence he will receive.”

DA Singas said that after Ramirez allegedly exposed himself to a seven-year old girl on November 24, 2014 at a Glen Cove supermarket the defendant then forced a five-year old girl to touch him.

Ramirez was arrested by the Glen Cove Police Department’s Detective Squad and the Nassau County Police Department’s Special Victims Squad on December 9, 2014.

Assistant District Attorney Caryn Stepner of DA Singas’ Special Victims Bureau is prosecuting the case. Ramirez is represented by Charles Kelton, Esq.
