[ARCHIVED] Appellate Division Affirms Convictions of Former County Legislators & Appointee in Corruption Case

MINEOLA, N.Y. – Nassau County District AttorneyMadeline Singas announced that the Appellate Division Second JudicialDepartment has unanimously affirmed the 2014 convictions of former Countylegislators Roger Corbin and Patrick Williams and Town of North Hempstead CommunityDevelopment Agency Executive Director Neville Mullings. 

 

The three men were accused of having various roles in abid-rigging scheme involving sites related to the New Cassel RevitalizationProject. Corbin was convicted in September 2014 of Bribe Receiving in the 2ndDegree and Official Misconduct and sentenced to two to six years in prison;Williams was convicted of two counts of Conspiracy in the 4th Degree andsentenced to one year in prison; Mullings was convicted of two counts ofConspiracy in the 4th Degree and two counts of Official Misconduct and wassentenced to nine months in jail. 

 

“Instead of revitalizing the New Cassel community,these corrupt officials used their positions of powerto line their own pockets,” DA Singas said. “Public corruption is a scourge onour county and my office will continue to use every tool at our disposal tohold accountable anyone who violates the public’s trust.”  

 

The men were indicted in 2010 after a three-year longinvestigation into the multimillion-dollar New Cassel Redevelopment Project,which was created to revitalize the downtown corridor of New Cassel. Theinvestigation revealed multiple schemes, including bid-rigging, bribery andattempts to steer the project to a specific developer. 

 

Assistant District Attorney Laurie K. Gibbons of DASingas’ Appeals Bureau argued the case. Mullings is represented by FrederickBrewington, Esq.; Corbin is represented by Thomas Villecco, Esq.; Williams isrepresented by Brian Griffin, Esq.
