Legislator Judy Jacobs Congratulates Resident Frances Pearlmutter on her Involvement with the Office of Militarily Strategic Services

On D Day, the 6th of June, both Legislator Judy Jacobs (D-Woodbury) and Plainview Old Bethpage Water Commissioner Andrew Bader stopped at The Atria in Plainview to congratulate resident Frances Pearlmutter on an award she just received in recognition of her involvement with the Office of Militarily Strategic Services from 1944-1946.

She was a student at Boston University and was summoned by the Dean because of her language skills, math, science and cognitive ability and was needed by her country. She accepted her call to serve. The next day she was taken to Arlington Hall Station in D.C. , the building with the highest security in the U.S.A. At the Station Fran worked in Strategic Services where her mentoring was around the clock. She was mentored by professors of Japanese culture and received an intense education. With all the knowledge she received, this extraordinary woman became a Japanese Code Breaker. Jacobs said, “ I am in awe of her brilliance and devotion to our Country. We should be very honored to have her as a resident in our area.”

Fran is the recipient of numerous awards and is currently an active member of Rotary International, AAUW and Jewish War Veterans Gleir-Levitt post 655
