[ARCHIVED] Uniondale Man Convicted of Manslaughter in Death of a Toddler

Lord Pardo

MINEOLA, N.Y. – Nassau County District Attorney Madeline Singas announced that a Uniondale man was convicted yesterday evening of manslaughter in the death of a toddler who he was caring for while the child’s mother went to work in October 2015.

Lord Pardo, 28, was convicted by a jury of Manslaughter in the 2nd Degree (a C felony). The defendant is due back in court on August 9 and faces a sentence of up to five to 15 years in prison. The trial, before Acting Supreme Court Justice Jerald Carter, lasted four weeks and the jury deliberated for approximately two days.

“This defendant brutally beat a precious and innocent little boy, and the toddler ultimately died from the catastrophic injuries he caused,” DA Singas said. “My heart goes out to the victim's family and I hope this conviction provides them some comfort.”

DA Singas said that Pardo was babysitting the 18-month old victim, who is not related to the defendant, and Pardo’s infant daughter on October 11, 2015. The toddler was severely beaten and suffered from massive abdominal injuries, including a lacerated liver, internal bleeding, and other injuries. The victim was pronounced deceased at approximately 2:57 p.m. that afternoon by medical personnel at North Shore LIJ Syosset Hospital.

After a short investigation, the defendant was arrested by Nassau County Police Department Homicide Detectives on Oct. 12.

Deputy Executive District Attorney Kyle Rose-Louder and Deputy Chief Jessica Cepriano of DA Singas’ County Court Bureau are prosecuting the case. Pardo is represented by Jeff Groder, Esq.
