[ARCHIVED] Comptroller George Maragos to Receive Hempstead NAACP Civil Rights Award

Mineola, NY- Nassau County Comptroller George Maragos will receive the Civil Rights Award from the Hempstead Branch N.A.A.C.P. on June 7th at the 33rd Annual Freedom Fund Luncheon. Other honorees include Melvin Jackson (Life Achievement Award), Pearl Jacobs (Community Service Award) and various individuals who have demonstrated extraordinary efforts to spread diversity and equality.

"I am honored and humbled to be recognized by the NAACP in Hempstead," Comptroller George Maragos. "As comptroller I have stressed the importance of diversity and equal opportunity in my office and throughout the County. Over the last four and a half years I have made it a priority to be visible in all communities and to stress to our residents that the Comptroller’s office is an option for residents to express any government complaints or suggestions."

"Comptroller George Maragos has distinguished himself among his political colleagues as one who puts people before politics," said Mel Harris, President of the Hempstead NAACP branch.

The theme for the 33rd Annual Freedom Fund Luncheon is, "There is power...break every chain." The event is taking place at Verdi’s of Westbury and begins at 11:45 am on Saturday June 7th.
