On Monday, Feb. 26, 2018, Patrick Ryder was unanimously confirmed as Nassau County's permanent police commissioner. Nassau County Executive Laura Curran swore in Ryder in a brief ceremony in the legislature's Mineola chambers.
The Nassau County Legislature unanimously confirmed Patrick Ryder as the County’s new police commissioner and praised him for his crime-fighting initiatives, community engagement and management of the county budget.
“I was very happy to witness Nassau County Police Commissioner Ryder take the Oath of Office. Congratulations! An honor well deserved.” said Legislator Denise Ford
Ryder, a 32-year veteran of the county police force, had been operating in an acting capacity since former Acting Commissioner Thomas Krumpter’s retirement and is the first permanent head of the department since December 2013.
