[ARCHIVED] Nassau County Selects Law Firms Eligible to Serve as Outside Counsel

County received excellent responses covering 25 specific fields

MINEOLA, NY—Nassau County Executive Laura Curran today released a listing of law firms that have been qualified to represent Nassau County in a variety of legal fields. The firms all responded to a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) process and were selected for qualification by the County Attorney’s evaluation committees. The RFQ was issued on April 25, 2018. Notifications to selected firms were issued this week.

“These law firms are among the best in their fields,” said Curran. “As we select firms for particular assignments, we will be able to rely on the competitive municipal rates they have provided.”

County Executive Curran welcomes working with members of the legal community for the best representation possible of the County on legal matters. It is common practice for government agencies, municipalities and businesses to seek outside counsel when there is a conflict of interest or when specific expertise is needed.

“We are proud of the County Attorney’s Office for handling a variety of matters in-house with its own legal staff, but we still need to supplement our legal representation with outside counsel. This combination will serve the County effectively and efficiently.”

Nassau County Attorney Jared Kasschau said “The competitive selection process for outside counsel will guarantee quality representation and the most beneficial fee structure for Nassau County”.

Forty-five firms were qualified in 25 different practice areas, including appellate law, casualty, bankruptcy, class action and commercial litigation. The firms will work under the supervision of Nassau County Attorney Jared Kasschau.

“We are fortunate to have an experienced and robust legal community in Nassau County and firms ready to handle municipal matters,” said Curran.
