[ARCHIVED] Statement from County Executive Laura Curran on Venditto Guilty Plea

MINEOLA, NY – Today is yet another reminder that for too long, our residents have been forced to foot the bill for a culture of corruption that permeated all levels of government in Nassau. Our residents have had it with politicians who preach about fiscal integrity while lining their pockets on the taxpayers’ dime.

I want our residents to know that we’re turning the page on the culture of corruption.

Since taking office, my Administration has:

  • Removed an anti-competitive fee for businesses seeking to do business with Nassau. Since the fee removal went into effect on 1/1/2019, the number of vendors registered has risen by over 200%

  • Launched a first-of-its-kind partnership with a leading risk and compliance firm to streamline due diligence research on vendors. At no cost to taxpayers, Nassau is the first municipality in the nation to utilize artificial intelligence technology to vet its vendors.

We will continue full steam ahead on reforms that bring more transparency and oversight into how we spend taxpayer money. There will be daunting challenges ahead, but we are well on our way to restoring integrity to government in Nassau County.
