[ARCHIVED] COUNTY EXECUTIVE CURRAN DECLARES STATE OF EMERGENCY

(MINEOLA, NY) March 13, 2020 - Nassau County Executive Laura Curran today declared a state of emergency in Nassau County in response to the continued spread of novel coronavirus, or COVID-19.

While Nassau County has been thoroughly preparing for weeks and has adequate funding to address the situation, this declaration will allow the County increased flexibility to ease regulatory requirements and procurement rules, continue state and local coordination, and ensure continued access to critical services for hardworking taxpayers.

“Our top priority is to make sure Nassau County residents stay safe and healthy,” said Nassau County Executive Laura Curran. “This emergency declaration will ensure we can continue to prepare and appropriately respond to all residents’ needs during this time.”

County Executive Curran also announced additional steps to ensure the health and safety of all residents, including temporarily closing County owned and operated indoor leisure and recreational facilities. These facilities include:

The County Executive has also closed the Nassau County Traffic and Parking Violations Agency (TVPA) and suspended enforcement of the boot and tow program, as well as eviction enforcement proceedings by the Nassau County Sheriff’s Office.
