[ARCHIVED] Legislator Arnold W. Drucker, County Executive Laura Curran Celebrate Renaming of “Heroes Way”

WHAT: As Long Island approaches the one-week anniversary of embarking upon Phase Four of its regional reopening, Nassau County Legislator Arnold W. Drucker (D - Plainview) will join Plainview community leaders to celebrate the first responders, hospital staff and frontline healthcare workers that empowered our region to emerge from the darkest days of the COVID-19 pandemic.

During a ceremony led by Legislator Drucker and Nassau County Executive Laura Curran, a portion of Old Country Road between Kalda Lane and Central Park Road will be re-named “Heroes Way” as a lasting tribute to the tireless efforts of healthcare and hospital workers at Plainview Hospital, the compassionate care provided by Central Island Healthcare’s team of healthcare professionals, and the courageous and selfless service of first responders from the Plainview Fire Department. The stretch of road being renamed abuts each of those entities.

“Healthcare workers, first responders and essential workers fortified our community and provided the support we all needed to overcome the greatest challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic,” Legislator Drucker said. “They are profoundly deserving of this public tribute to their courageous service, and I am proud to join County Executive Curran and the entire Plainview community as we salute our hometown heroes.”

Physical distancing and mask protocols will be strictly observed during the ceremony.

WHO: Legislator Drucker is scheduled to be joined by Nassau County Executive Laura Curran and their colleagues in government; local COVID-19 survivors; Plainview and Syosset Hospital Executive Director Michael Fener; leaders from Northwell Health, the Plainview Fire Department, Central Island Healthcare and the Plainview-Old Bethpage Chamber of Commerce; and other community stakeholders during the re-naming ceremony.

Following a moment of silence in honor of those who lost their lives to COVID-19, members of Girl Scouts troops from Plainview will lead the Pledge of Allegiance.

WHEN: Tuesday, July 14, 2020, 11 a.m.

WHERE: Intersection of Central Park Road and Old Country Road, Plainview, N.Y. 11803
