[ARCHIVED] Drucker Condemns Trump Affordable Housing Tweet; Urges Residents to Utilize Discrimination Hotline

(MINEOLA, N.Y.) - On Friday, July 31, 2020, Nassau County Legislator Arnold W. Drucker (D - Plainview) issued the following statement:

“Our rich diversity forms the beautiful cultural tapestry that makes Nassau County such a wonderful place to work, play and raise a family. I reject President Trump’s baseless assertion that affordable housing is detrimental to the suburbs and the thinly-veiled racism he used to convey his ridiculous claim.

If he truly wants to preserve what he calls the ‘Great Suburban Lifestyle Dream,’ he must get off the golf course and Twitter for long enough to immediately restore the SALT tax credit that his administration gutted - a course of action that would actually provide profound relief to many Nassau homeowners.

Now more than ever, it is important to work together to build a brighter, more inclusive future. As part of Nassau County’s response to the publication of Newsday’s award-winning “Long Island Divided” housing discrimination exposé, I proudly sponsored and secured passage of legislation that created Nassau County’s Housing Discrimination Hotline in 2019. I am committed to eradicating the pervasive segregation that has been allowed to fester on Long Island for generations.

If you or your loved ones ever experience illegal housing discrimination in Nassau County, I urge you to call 1-888-412-0474 and file a report immediately. The hotline is operational from 9 a.m. - 9 p.m. on weekdays and 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. on weekends.”
