[ARCHIVED] Curran Announces Opening of Housing Choice Voucher Waitlist

Applications Now Being Accepted Here

Nassau County, NY – Nassau County Executive Laura Curran announced today that the Nassau County Office of Housing will be accepting applications for the Housing Choice Voucher and Project-Based Voucher Program (Section 8) waiting list beginning on June 21, 2021 at 9am and closing on July 2, 2021 at 4: 45pm. Section 8 Vouchers provide a subsidy to help low-income renters afford safe, decent housing.

Only one application per household will be permitted. Families selected for the waiting list will receive notification from The Office of Housing. 2,500 households will be selected for the waitlist through a lottery. Those selected for the waitlist will be subject to eligibility screening and offered a voucher if eligible and as one becomes available. Applying does not guarantee a voucher. Disabled non-elderly families may be eligible for Mainstream Vouchers.

“During these times of economic uncertainty for so many, the stable rent subsidy provided through this program will be a great benefit for both families and landlords.” said Nassau County Executive Curran.

“We are pleased to announce that Nassau County Office of Housing will be opening its Housing Choice Voucher (Section 8) waiting list lottery, which will allow more affordable housing opportunities to low income families in the County,” said Kennetha A. Pettus, Director of Nassau County Office of Housing.
