[ARCHIVED] LEGISLATOR GAYLOR HONORS NASSAU COUNTY TOP COPS WHO STOPPED SCAMMER

LEGISLATOR GAYLOR HONORS NASSAU COUNTY TOP COPS WHO STOPPED SCAMMER

Mineola, NY— On February 28th, Legislator Bill Gaylor and the Nassau County Legislature honored two police officers as Top Cops who stopped a scammer who was preying on a senior citizen in Seaford. The doorbell camera video of the incident has since gone viral and has made national news.

On January 20th, a man tried to scam a senior citizen in Seaford by telling her that her grandson was in jail and needed $8,000 for bail. The scammer told her to put the money in an envelope, and a bail bondsman would come to her house to pick it up. Figuring this was a scam, she called the police, and Officers Brian Coleman and Michael Passarelli of the 7th Precinct came to her house and waited inside for the scammer to arrive. When he did, the Officers jumped out and tackled the scammer as he tried to flee.

“Officers Coleman and Passarelli are great examples of the lengths police will go just to help people,” Legislator Gaylor said.  “These officers stopped a scammer who was victimizing senior citizens and made him think twice about doing this again. Thank you, Officers Coleman and Passarelli as well as all our officers for all you do!”
