[ARCHIVED] Uniondale Man Gets 25 Years to Life for Fatal Shooting Outside Church

Nassau County District Attorney Kathleen Rice announced the sentencing of a Uniondale man for fatally shooting 34-year-old Isaac Andrews near a church where parishioners were gathered for Sunday services.

Jonathan Mack, 20, was sentenced today to 25 years to life in prison by Nassau County Court Judge George Peck. Mack was found guilty in August on all counts, including Murder in the 2nd Degree (an A felony) and two counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 2nd Degree (a C violent felony), in a 10-day bench trial before Judge Peck.

“Jonathan Mack not only shot Isaac Andrews three times in broad daylight, with no regard for the safety of others who were celebrating Sunday church services nearby,” DA Rice said, “but he also fired a fourth shot as his victim fell, ensuring that Mr. Andrews would never have the chance to speak out against his assailant. Today, the criminal justice system has spoken on his victim’s behalf, and as a result, this defendant will be off our streets for a very long period of time.”

On June 30, 2013 at approximately 10:30 a.m., Mack got into an argument with a woman on Hill Street in Uniondale. The victim, Isaac Andrews of Uniondale, approached Mack while the argument was taking place. Mack then pulled out a handgun and fired three shots, all of which struck Andrews.

As Andrews fell, Mack fired a fourth shot, striking the victim in the upper back. Mack then fled the scene. Andrews was taken to Nassau University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Mack was found in Florida and arrested on July 30, 2013 by the Nassau County Police Department and returned back to New York for prosecution.

Assistant District Attorney Daryl Levy of DA Rice’s Major Offense Bureau is prosecuting the case. Mack is represented by Brian Carmody, Esq.
