[ARCHIVED] Legislator MacKenzie is Fighting to Protect our Children by Making Laws Tougher on Sex Offenders

School Sex Offender Safety Zone

The New York Court of Appeals recently took away Nassau’s ability to set its own residency restrictions on convicted sex offenders. Legislator MacKenzie has called upon the assistance of our local NYS legislators to help Nassau County regain its right to protect our most vulnerable citizens.

Nassau is seeking to restrict Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3 convicted sex offenders from living within 1,000 feet of a school. Currently, NYS only sets residency limits on Level 3 offenders.

NYS Senator Michael Venditto and NYS Assemblyman Ed Ra have sponsored legislation for Nassau in the State Senate and State Assembly giving Nassau the right to restrict all 3 levels of sex offenders.

Legislator MacKenzie will continue to fight for the passage of this legislation to restore Nassau’s ability to protect our children.
